Local MP Mike Amesbury pleaded guilty to common assault on 16th January. A sentence of 10 weeks was given on 24th February at Chester Magistrates Court with 40% to be spent in prison and the rest on licence. However, Mr. Amesbury appealed the sentence and after 3 days served in prison, it was reduced to a 2 year suspended sentence with community service, anger management course and a monitoring of his drinking.

He resigned on 17th March, which triggers the first by election since the 2024 General Election.
