Frodsham Town Council are planning a series of events, along with others all over the country, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe on 8th May – VE Day.
Events will include lighting the Frodsham Hill Beacon and Lamp of Peace, a proclamation, the peal of church bells, a picnic, fish and chips and afternoon tea. Look out for announcements of times and places of events to celebrate this important anniversary remembering those who served in World War Two.
Between April and June, to remember the huge sacrifice that the nation made, Frodsham & District History Society will hold an exhibition in Frodsham Library of local peoples’ roles in World War 2. Thirty years ago, a similar exhibition was held at the Church Hall, which resulted in the Society producing a booklet of memories of some local people who had lived through the war. A new publication is in preparation, with the original material supplemented by additional memories, new articles and mini biographies of those servicemen who lost their lives.
Did members of your family serve in the war? If you have any photos of them, or other documents, that you would be prepared to permit the Society to scan in and use for the exhibition, please email
