After former Head Student Grace Wheeler completed her Level 3 studies in Sixth Form in 2023, she embarked on an exciting 2 year Sports Journalism Apprenticeship and Gold Standard Diploma with BBC Sport. She has recently been shortlisted for an NCTJ Award of Excellence for Equality, Inclusion and Diversity for her impressive video story on Women’s Rugby.
The school has recently been awarded a Gold certification for their work in Religious Education. This will be the third time of receiving the highest level of a national accreditation in the subject. RE lead Naomi Anstice explains “As a community school, we provide our pupils with an inclusive world view approach to learning about religion in the world around them, which is essential to their growth as a citizen in modern day Britain. As well as learning about beliefs and practices, they also learn to question; to analyse and to consider their own personal influences and world view. Through our RE lessons we also teach empathy, respect, diversity and anti-racism”.
With a theme of “A celebration of Cheshire” based at the Community Centre, activities include talks, events, workshops and writing competitions. Entries will be judged by patron Tim Firth who will also be guest speaker at a literary dinner at Main Street Kitchen. Guest line-up includes stand up Jenny Eclair, poet Lemn Sissay, BBC presenter Louise Minchin and a one man performance of Charles Dickens “Nicholas Nickleby” by his great, great grandson, Gerald Dickens. Our local amateur dramatic group brought home the silverware at the recent NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) awards evening. David Varley won for Best male performance in a comedy for “The Three Musketeers”. Best staging went to the whole of the backstage team for “Holmes and the Ripper”. Congratulations one and all.
Two Frodsham residents have been found guilty and imprisoned for facilitating illegal entry to the UK. At Chester Crown Court on 4th February Thi Kieu Anh Hoang was jailed for 27 months and Tuan Khac Doan for 54 months for trafficking two teenagers from Vietnam. The two had been in custody since July 2023 following a visit to a Frodsham nail bar by the Western Exploitation team in company with Immigration officers. They were arrested under the Modern Slavery Act.
